Game Night: February 7, 2008

This month we feature the following games, along with light refreshments:

Cathedral

Number of players: 2
Ages: 8 to Adult

A two-player strategy board game based around a battle for supremacy between two political factions (dark and light) within the walls of a Medieval City.  Ancient cities were confined by walls for protection against enemies but as the population grew the limited space caused competition of another kind. This game represents that competition for living space within the city wall.

The city is a 10x10 square area surrounded by parapets (walls) and towers in the style of an ancient defended city. The occupants farm and work outside the city and at night, or during a threat, they retreated to the safety of the city walls. The city is cramped and peasants and lords alike squabble amongst each other to find room in the city. Having carved out a space they are not satisfied and continue to take up residence in other unclaimed space available, and so the battle continues.

miQube

Number of players: 2 to 4

Ages: 7 to Adult

A new three-dimensional puzzle combined with FOUR great board games that provide a unique set of challenges for individuals, groups and couples. Be among the first in the world to solve the enigma of the puzzle, and enjoy hours of entertainment with the various board games.

The four board games are:

Domination - Players compete by placing the pieces upwards so that their selected color dominates the board's surface. Block your opponent's next move, cover their previous placements, and second-guess their ultimate strategy. For 2 to 4 players.

Advance - Starting from the corners of the board, players fight to capture both position and territory. Link each of your placements and advance across the board, gaining territory as you go. Beware of your opponent who can cover your pieces, block your advance and capture your territory with the selected color placements. For 2 to 4 players.

Gridblock - Having selected a single game color, each player must work to block their opponent by preventing them from making a placement on the board's surface. Cover the board carefully with your pieces, leaving room for your subsequent moves while trying to predict and block your opponent's next. For 2 to 4 players.

Connect 5 - Head-to-head competition where each player seeks to position five horizontal, vertical or diagonal colored dots in a row. Plan your moves in advance but don't lose sight of what your opponent is up to. The player with enough forethought to out-maneuver their opponent will win. For 2 players.

Knuckling Knights

Number of players: 2 to 4
Ages: 4 to Adult

It's rumbling and thumping heavily in the castle, the knights are running about inside the tower trying to find the secret door. But in the crush they all tumble out of the castle door. With some luck they won't fall into the pit. Whoever can free the most knights wins the tournament. A rumbling knights' game with 3D castle for 2 to 4 warriors.
